Jackpot Radio
BACKGROUND
In late 2002, an interview on an LA radio talk show discussing online gambling appeared to spike traffic to online casino sites, resulting in a stream of new player sign-ups. INSIGHTS
As Spiral began analyzing the spiked traffic to the sites, it quickly became clear that an additional source of player acquisition had been identified for Spiral’s gaming clients, which would provide greater coverage to a wider audience, thus increasing the market share of the online brands that Spiral was marketing for its clients.
Spiral’s creative management team immediately began developing the concept of a multi-platform, cross-media Talk Radio Show with a complimenting Web site – this acquisition channel would break down the boundaries previously dividing the online gaming entertainment venues and the real life gambling interests of people in the greater Los Angeles area. BUSINESS SOLUTION
Spiral utilized all its collective experience in online gaming to create and develop the site concept, design and content. Tim Conway Jr. signed on to host the new radio talk show – and Jackpot Radio, which was broadcast to the greater LA population on KLSX radio station on Friday nights from 11:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and simulcast on the Jackpot Radio Web site, went live in June 2002.
The format was simple: the radio show was tailored to the gambling market and broadcast live blackjack tournaments, celebrity interviews and included audience participation through call-ins. The Jackpot Radio Web site broadcast the radio show online and provided a portal to various online casinos. RESULTS
The Jackpot Radio show was a tremendous success in terms of popularity. The show was well-liked and enjoyed high public interaction. Ratings were excellent and doubled and tripled each quarter.
Cross-marketing of promotions both on the radio and on the Web site was very successful and generated listener interest in the show with relatively improved Web site metrics. Notable celebrity guests included Brooke Burk, Chazz Palminteri, Tia Carrere, Tony Robbins, Mary Stuart Masterson, The Baywatch Girls and John Ritter.
The show was eventually cancelled due to low advertising revenues, however the power of cross media entertainment was undeniable, and plans for future syndicated broadcasts remain in development.
